Well that was a terrible explanation of Adorno. Let me see if I can rephrase that: My mention of Adorno has to do with his discussion of marks, particularly how he finds a change in what marks is talking about over his moment . This is the same kind of evidence that Zizek discusses with Marxs letter on feuerbach. .
Perhaps I could maybe even leave out that part about Adorno or maybe just elaborate a couple sentences. Or maybe just clean up that paragraph a little bit
I guess philosophers have been doing amazing things with their heads for a long time, but you really take it to the next level in this video.
š.
Hi. You donāt post much any more.šI fell like a responded to this comment of yours. But I donāt see it.
How r u?
I have a question for you. Your opinion on this odd but interesting person.
I recently reconnected with a friend from high school, one of my best friends back then. Hasnāt spoken in 30 years.
I think I mentioned him to you..
But anyways…
He studied to be a Baptist pastor. Actually was in line, like an intern at a church. I guess. Gave sermons and stuff.
At some point things fell apart. And he ended up homeless drug addict. Got a terrible fungus which took out one of his lungs.
So. My question for you concerns his view:
He is quite Christian. The only book he appeals to is the Bible. Theology.
He feels that this world is filled with demons and evil spirits and that these are manifest in the world, in institutions and government, everywhere lurking. These demons worked to destroy his life. So he now lays low as Christ protects him.
What do you make of this? What is your view:
ā
29āAt the appointed time he will invade the South again, but this time the outcome will be different from what it was before. 30Ships of the western coastlands will oppose him, and he will lose heart. Then he will turn back and vent his fury against the holy covenant. He will return and show favor to those who forsake the holy covenant.
31āHis armed forces will rise up to desecrate the temple fortress and will abolish the daily sacrifice. Then they will set up the abomination that causes desolation. 32With flattery he will corrupt those who have violated the covenant, but the people who know their God will firmly resist him.
33āThose who are wise will instruct many, though for a time they will fall by the sword or be burned or captured or plundered. 34When they fall, they will receive a little help, and many who are not sincere will join them. 35Some of the wise will stumble, so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time.
~~ Daniel 11:29-32
I read this passage in one of my moments of the “weird.” The passage speaks about the time of the end, when Satan and his crew will wage war against God’s people, the people of the covenant.
It is particularly meaningful to me, because I am already experiencing the war. My last month in the tunnel was an all-out assault that I barely survived, but I received “a little help.”
” 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. ” ~~ Ephesians 6:12-13
My sense of corruption results from my confrontations with spiritual forces of evil. I was breaking the covenant in my drug addiction and turning away from God, so the Evil One saw the opportunity to corrupt me. I stumbled in my effort to resist, still I am stumbling because I smoke and drink, but that is part of the corruption.
The corruption is why I lay low, hoping to heal from my battle injuries. Sounds fantastic, I know, but that is the way things go for me. I am a targeted individual in too many (literal) ways. Talking about it really doesn’t help, but I thought sharing some biblical texts that inform my experience my help you begin to picture my circumstances.
I have chosen a side, and I am all-in. I believe in God and resist the “spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” The lower I lay, the less I am confronted. The last battle left me barely breathing, and its is possible the corruption will eventually kill me, but I am all-in. I am riding with the Lord.ā
I have asked him where Christ is in his life. And he said He is the corner stone of his life.
But I cannot help but wonder then why he exists in such fear.
Hi Lance.
It has been a few years since I last posted anything on the blog. I guess you are just about my only WordPress connection now because I get email notifications when you post.
I do remember you mentioning your friend recently. Maybe it wasn’t clear to me that you wanted a response or maybe I didn’t know what to say and I just let it slip from my mind. I don’t remember. I apologize if you were looking for a response about him at that time.
I do believe that we live in the middle of a struggle against “powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
I think your question for your friend is a good one. Did you ask him your question: Why do you live in such fear?
I wasnāt really looking for a response on the previous one. Itās cool.
I didnāt ask him directly. But I have said it as a comment about it.
Maybe Iāll ask him directly.
I think he’s right that he’s in a battle, and I think it’s a good thing that he’s “all-in, riding with the Lord.”
But, I wonder what kind of confidence he has. This is from the book of First John:
This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. . . . We love because he first loved us. (1 John 4)
Thank you. It kind of makes me sad. Thereās a lot to his story. But overall I sense a lot of fear, that he defends himself with fear.
It doesnāt make sense to me. He seems very Old Testament, end days. Kinda Christian. Like missing the heart of it all.
Iāll wait for his reply.
I sent you an email. I think I have your addrsss.
So was the face changes intentional? š Based on the excerpt it sounds like something I might be interested in reading. Not sure how I will take your use of Adorno though.
Cheers!
Yes. Lol. The face effects were to add some dimension to the ālectureā. š
Yes in that little Excerpt I mentioned Adorno but then I didnāt really elaborate very much did I. Because I tend to place critical theory as something that people do involved with Adornoās interpretation of Marx, that something changes in what heās talking about.
Perhaps Iām reaching too far there maybe I should take that sentence out.
if youāre interested: i am almost done with the first draft of the book. I think itās probably about maybe 300 maybe up to 500 pages long, Iām not entirely sure because I did them in sections on different docs but each one is over 100 pages long and I think thereās four or five sections.
So I might be a little bit delusional by thinking that Iām going to have it out by the end of August but I go back-and-forth between thereās no way I can get this done to wow I think I really might actually get this done. lol
And it definitely is a book a philosophy book a philosophy essay. As opposed to my previous book āthe moment of decisive significanceā which was more just an alternative rendition or interpretation of the gospels with philosophical commentary.
But if you are interested in reading it I would appreciate some sort of help if you have the time or the gumption maybe as what they call a beta reader?
But if not and you just think you might want to read it after I finish it then thatās cool too and of course I will tell you when it finally gets published.
But the video really is just to kind a give people a small taste. Show that perhaps I might know a little bit about what Iām talking about and I might actually have something significant to say, but Iām only going to give you a little taste and if you really want to see how that feilld out then youāll have to read the rest of the book. lol.
I am sadly too incredibly busy to be a draft reader, though given from the selection you read from, it seems like something up my alley and I would be interested in seeing fuller thoughts and criticism developed. Between work, my ongoing writing responsibilities, and filling out paper work to study in England, I’m kind of booked–no pun intended–for the time being. My blog or site will be slowing down too! I might get around to your book after it comes out. Just make sure to announce it to us! š
Totally understand. No problem .
I might even release it say in one book as a publication. But then also maybe publish it in its individual sections as smaller book.s
.
Somehow, as I am wrapping up this last chapter, I think you might be greatly interested in it, as a political or economic philosopher.
Perhaps. š½
